The Department of Corporate Finance and Controlling, in collaboration with the University of Marburg (UMR), invites master's students to join the international course "Corporate Finance & Institutions" led by leading instructors from Ukraine and Germany.

About the Course

This innovative course merges concepts and methods from Institutional Economics and Corporate Finance, exploring their joint perspective on how rules shape behavior, and how behavior gives rise to rules. Course participants will learn how to analyze the incentives that are induced by the rules, which in turn are shaped by institutions, particularly in the field of corporate finance.

Course Instructors

The course is developed and taught jointly by scholars from the University of Marburg and KNEU:

• Professor Elisabeth Schulte — Professor of Institutional Economics at the University of Marburg
• Associate Professor Iryna Ivanets — Associate Professor at the Department of Corporate Finance and Controlling at KNEU named after Vadym Hetman

Main Course Topics

• Module 1: Introduction to Institutional Economics & Corporate Finance
• Module 2: Imperfect Information & Instruments in Corporate Finance to Deal with It
• Module 3: Transactions, Transaction Costs, Their Origins, and Governance Structures
• Module 4: Corporate Finance, Ownership and Control & Corporate Governance

Learning Format and Assessment

The course is conducted completely online on the ILIAS learning platform at the University of Marburg. Assessment is based on a portfolio consisting of:

• Four quizzes (up to 20 points)
• A case study (up to 20 points)
• A study diary (up to 10 points)
• A final test (up to 50 points)
